Universal Joint Animation

A universal joint is commonly employed to transfer mechanical power between two shafts when their axis is at an angle to each other. It consists of a cross and a pair of yolks. The universal joint is not a constant-velocity joint i.e., even if you apply a constant speed; the output speed will not be constant because of the added effect of rotation. Another orientation known as Double Cardan (Double Universal Joint) overcomes this problem of jerky rotation by canceling the effect of fluctuating output with varying input.
